SoundSAM biography:
Stian was from early ages in love with “electronic” music and sound. The coolest thing he knew was the vocoda voice of “Soundwave” in the “Transformers” cartoon, and the theme song was his favorite musical piece. At school he wanted to play the synthesizer, but there was no such possition in the orchestra at the moment, so he ended up with the Clarinet, which he “hated”. Stian knew in his heart that keyboard/piano was more his style, and his fire for learning music faded.
Then a little bit older, in the early 90’s, dance music like SNAP and the KLF among others caught Stian’s interest in music again, as he loved to dance at the local disco. But Stian’s passion for dancing was different as he just loved the sensation of the bass and beat on the dancefloor taking him to another understanding of music. He then started to make mixtapes on cassette with two tape decks, by pressing play and pause when he wanted to mix a part into another. Then a friend showed him how to make music on a simple four channel program with 8 bits samples on the AMIGA 1200 called “Pro Tracker” and the passion took a bigger leap.
At that point he discovered the more underground side of music and the "House" music genre. Norwegian underground arctic house music was something that deffined his presence, and the mystical sound and aura woke up something much deeper in him.
He got his first demo review in the Norwegian electronic music magazine Holographic at the age of 16 with positive response for his Breakbeat/Prodigy style production. DJ’ing now also became a part of his life and he started to arrange house parties and clubs in his home town (Grimstad), with ups, and downs, as the electronic music scene was rather small at that point in time, especially in a small southern Norwegian town. But that never stopped him from creating and loving it. After being DJ mainly for a while he started focusing on production, as now the necessary equipment was more available than ever before.
Several times he was the “DEMO of the Month” in “Future Music” UK and every time he handed in remixes for the remix competition in “Future Music” he was among the top ten finalists with great reviews. In 2007 he became “Ukas Urørt” on the national radio station P3 cause of his productivity, quality and his track “What’s that Sound”. At the same time Stian founded his label Phat Fuel Records which was a starting point to get SoundSAM music released.
His music now became global and it didn’t take long before many of his tracks was among the top 20 and top 10 in “Beatports” top 100 sales list in different genres. In 2009 he won the international Røyksopp Remix contest with his Tricky Tricky - SoundSAM Kontrapunkt remix, which was released globally January 2011. In 2010 he started a club consept called DANSBAR in his current location Kristiansand, where he is resident DJ.
Stian is a man of many varieties in music genre, as he makes and play everything from deep chill out, indie dance, funk, nudisco, triphop, breakbeat, house, deep house, electro pop and astro electronica to name some. As long as the music is great, there are no boundaries.
And as strange as it seems, Stian has a tendency to compose and dream music in sleeping state, for then purposely wake him self up as he know in his dream that he is in fact sleeping, drag himself to the computer and recreate the music in his dreams. The mystical and philosophic reality drives Stian into searching for answers in outerspace, as well as deep inside the soul. And music is the true language in an air supported atmosphere, as on the planet Earth, or another place somewhere in the deepest of space...
